BRC Christmas Social a Success

Thanks to Bedford Representative Keith Murphy, BRC members did not even have to miss the football game to attend the annual BRC Christmas social.

Keith very generously donated the backroom of his business, Murphy’s Taproom, where we feasted on some great food items while the game played on several TVs on the wall above the the bar.

About 60 people attended including Senators Raymond White (Hillsborough 9) Senator Andy Sanborn (Merrimack 7) Bedford Reps Cebrowski, Graham, and Hawkins, and Goffstown State Rep Mark Warden.

Kevin Smith and Ovide Lamontagne, Candidates for Governor were also in attendance along with members of surrounding area GOP groups.

Thanks again Keith for the use of the room and the coffee and soft drinks.

BRC Kicks Off Students for Liberty Group

The Bedford Republican Committee has formed a Teenage Republican organization called “Students for Liberty”. This is an organization that is open to students 13 to 18 years of age and is open to all teenagers who share our Republican Values. This is not a Bedford High School-specific organization as the BRC purposely wanted to create the organization outside of the Bedford School system to allow home-schooled as well as students from non-Bedford Schools to participate. If you have teenagers or know of teenagers who might be interested in participating in this organization please have them contact the program’s mentor Valerie Earnshaw at earnshawvsus@aol.com

While this program is organized in Bedford, students from surrounding towns who do not have a program are welcome to participate in the Bedford program.

Tuesday, the 24th of May the new “Students of Liberty” group will hold their first meeting at the Bedford High School with a talk entitled “Unraveling the Mysteries of the Middle East”.

With the presidential primary season heating up and politics taking a center stage in New Hampshire the Bedford Republican Committee wanted to get our youth involved. “In a republic, the voters have a responsibility to be informed. It’s important to get our teens involved so they are prepared for that responsibility”‘ said Bill Van Anglen, chairman of the Bedford Republican Committee. A month ago a sampling of high school and middle school students got together to talk about what they wanted. The message was clear… information. They chose the name “Students of Liberty” and put together a series of programs designed to inform students of the important issues of our day. Upcoming meetings will feature the topics of healthcare, the budget, and the Constitution.

Bill Martel, professor at the Tuft’s Fletcher School of International Relations, will present “Unraveling the Mysteries of the Middle East”. “Professor Martel holds a PhD in political science and has vast experience in government and academia and has a knack for presenting things in a clear, concise manner making the most complicated issues understandable to the average citizen” said Valerie Earnshaw, mentor to the student group. She continues, “given the recent and complex happenings in the Middle East we may have a hard time limiting this informative session to the teens.”

All Bedford teens are invited to attend. Democracy in Action hours can be signed off for those BHS students attending the event.

The program will be held in room 137 of BHS at 7:00 PM followed by a question and answer session.

BEDFORD REPUBLICAN COMMITTEE TO AIR CANDIDATE INTERVIEWS

The Bedford Republican Committee is producing a series of interviews with Republican Primary candidates for broadcast on Bedford Community TV Channel 16.

“Our bylaws oblige us to support Republican candidates in Bedford and to inform voters. These programs are a way for us to do both.” said Committee Chairman Ray Chadwick. “It’s critical to know what a candidate stands for when you consider the impact of the next election on spending, taxes and social programs.”

Interviews were done with participating Republican candidates for Governor, the United States Senate and the House of Representatives, and the New Hampshire Senate and the House of Representatives. The 30 minute shows explore each candidate’s values, reasons for running, goals if elected and issues they consider important.

The shows were taped at Bedford Community TV, with Ken Hawkins serving as director and cameraman for the interviews. The interview shows, starting with candidates for Governor and proceeding through Federal and State candidates, will be shown on BCTV Channel 16 over the weeks before the Primary Election on September 14, 2010.

“Bedford Community TV has an organization and facility of superior competence and capability.” said Chadwick. “We’re pleased to have worked with BCTV and Ken Hawkins to help make it easier for voters to know the candidates and issues.”

The BCTV broadcast schedule is published weekly in the Bedford newspapers.

BRC Picnic 2010 a Success

Over 200 people attended the BRC’s Annual Family Picnic at the home of Doug and Shannon McGinley who once again were the host and hostess with the most and mostess!

A large tent covered the eating area on the grounds of their beautiful home and the children gathered in the lovely play area along the back yard.
