NH FEDERATION OF REPUBLICAN WOMEN ELECT NEW LEADERSHIP
Bedford’s Jane Aitken Named Woman of the Year

CONCORD, NH—The New Hampshire Federation of Republican Women hosted a standing room only crowd for their 2009 Annual Meeting at the historic Upham-Walker House in Concord this month. Republican women representing all ten New Hampshire counties converged on the popular meeting house to enjoy brunch and coffee and to officially elect a new Board of Directors who will serve for the 2010-2011 biennium. Newly elected officers are: President, Representative Nancy Elliott of Merrimack; 1st Vice President, Leanne Mocchia of Atkinson; 2nd Vice President, Sandra Ziehm of Nashua; 3rd Vice President, Laurie Savoy of Newmarket; 4th Vice President, Liz Christoffersen of Hollis; Tresurer, Jennifer Wrobleski of Dunbarton; Assistant Treasurer, Pat Stell Fleck of Wakefield; Recording Secretary, Marilyn Huston of Keene; Assistant Recording Secretary, Brenda Major of Plaistow and Corresponding Secretary, Barbara Barrett of Concord.

The NHFRW 2009 Republican Woman of the Year was awarded to Jane Aitken of Bedford in recognition of her behind the scenes work for a large number of grassroots groups throughout the state. Aitken serves on several committees and boards that are instrumental in leading and supporting Republican and other grassroots organizations here in New Hampshire. Aitken also co-hosts a taxpayer radio show broadcast throughout the Hillsborough County area and statewide via streaming radio.

Stopping by to meet and greet the crowd were several Republican candidates and hopefuls for the 2010 elections including candidate for Governor Jack Kimball and Karen Testerman, who is currently exploring a run for the corner office. Candidates for US Congress from the 2nd Congressional District who attended were Jennifer Horn and Bob Giuda. Bob Bestani who is running for Congress in New Hampshire’s 1st Congressional District and Ovide Lamontagne who recently announced he will run for the US Senate on the GOP side also joined the enthusiastic crowd.

State budget in a word? Sorry, ‘lean’ is not it

Have you heard the latest spin by the tax-and-spenders who control state government these days?

The Democrats say the new budget passed by the House and Senate and signed by Gov. John Lynch is “lean.” They say we are doing more with less. And they say spending is reduced.

Don’t believe a word of it!

At a time when 50,000 Granite Staters are out of work and paring down their home budgets to fit declining incomes, government spending continues to grow at breakneck speed.

Ex-governor blames state budget and gay marriage on Legislature serving special interests

PORTSMOUTH — John H. Sununu, former Republican governor and current chairman of the state GOP, said Thursday the state budget passed by the Legislature this week is a deliberate step by Democrats toward a state income tax.

And, he said, the time the Legislature spent on social issues — particularly the passage of a same-sex marriage law — is a kickback to “radical left groups” from out of state that funded Democrats’ campaigns in 2006 and 2008.
